A sequence is three or more cards of the same suit in order, such as 5, 6, 7 of hearts. A pure sequence has no joker; an impure one uses a joker to fill a gap, such as 9, joker, J of spades. A set is three or four cards of the same rank in different suits — two cards of the same suit do not count.

At the start of each deal a wild joker is picked at random, and every card of that rank becomes a joker too, alongside the printed ones. Jokers complete impure sequences and sets, but never a pure sequence.

Declare and scoring

Declaring with an invalid hand is a wrong show and carries a heavy points penalty, commonly the full 80 — which is why our confirmation step matters. When someone else declares correctly, you count your ungrouped cards: face cards and aces ten each, number cards their face value, jokers zero. Dropping out early always costs fewer points than dropping in the middle or playing a bad hand to the end.
